Description

The Piedmont region contains climbing around the Winston-Salem, King, Charlotte, Elkin, and Durham areas. Most of the quality climbing is located north of Winston-Salem near King and this includes Pilot Mountain, Moore's Wall and Cook's Wall. Stone Mountain is located north of Elkin about 90 minutes from Winston Salem. Charlotte is close to Crowders Mountain. Raleigh and Durham has some smaller selection bouldering. This region has the steepest, hard sport climbing in the state with areas like the Hanging Gardens and Cookbook. World-class, steep, quartzite trad climbing can be found at Moore's Wall. The most up-to-date guidebook for the region is 'Carolina Rocks' by Erica Lineberry
