Description

This region of NC is mostly located around Boone/Blowing Rock/Linville. This area has some of the more concentrated sport climbing in the state and world-class boulders with generally easy access. Notable climbing areas include Linville Gorge, Ship Rock, The Dump, 221 boulders, Little Wilson, and Sunken Treasure. There are many other areas but locals tend to keep those under the radar and they should not be posted online. The most up-to-date guidebook for the region is High Country Climbing by Matt Paden. Linville Gorge requires use of the old Climber's Guide to NC (vol 1, 2, 3) by Thomas Kelley or Selected Climbs in NC by Harrison Shull/Yon Lambert.
